Dr. Linda Gilbert, Director of Murfreesboro City Schools, announced the appointment of key individuals in leadership positions for the upcoming school year.
Joe Marlin has been named the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction. Marlin has served as the Special Education Supervisor for Murfreesboro City Schools since 2013. Prior to joining MCS, Marlin served as a program and behavior specialist for Rutherford County Schools. Marlin has over 30 years of experience working with students and teachers.
"Joe is an amazing leader who is uniquely qualified for this position. He is committed to excellence, is well-known throughout the state, and is a person of utmost integrity. In his new role, he will oversee all areas of instruction, ensuring the academic and personal success of each child. We are blessed to have him in this district and in this community," says Dr. Linda Gilbert, Director of Murfreesboro City Schools.
Marlin received his Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from MTSU, his Masters in Special Education from Vanderbilt and his undergraduate degree from UT Knoxville.
"Joe understands the district's approach to the whole child, has excellent ideas for moving the district forward, and has established great working relationships with all," says Gilbert.
Angela Fairchild has been named Interim Supervisor of the Department for Special Education. Fairchild has been a member of the MCS special education team for twenty-five years, originally serving as a school resource teacher. During the last 12 years, Fairchild has served as a district assessment specialist as well as performed additional roles within special education. Fairchild has an undergraduate degree in Special Elementary Education and Psychology and a Master's in Administration and Supervision.
Quinena Bell has been appointed Assistant Principal at Hobgood Elementary. Bell most recently served as an academic coach for Murfreesboro City Schools. In addition, Bell has served as a third and fourth grade teacher and an academic interventionist. Bell has 12 years of achievement in developing a productive student-focused environment to maximize learning experiences. Bell is a native of Murfreesboro. She received her Bachelors, Masters and Ed.S in Curriculum and Instruction from MTSU.
These leaders will join the existing leadership team of Murfreesboro City Schools as the district moves forward in creating an environment of success for each of our 8,700 school children.
